Play Like You Mean It
I use a wired Xbox controller for most Retro Gaming Hmcdretro sessions. Keyboard works fine for platformers. But your thumbs will cramp after twenty minutes.
(Trust me.)
HMCDRetro maps keys automatically, but you’ll want to remap jump and attack if you’re used to modern layouts. Old games don’t pause mid-air. They don’t auto-aim.
They don’t tell you what to do next.
That’s not broken. It’s design. You learn by dying.
A lot.
Save states help. Use them. Don’t feel guilty.
They’re not cheating (they’re) time machines that let you test one jump instead of restarting the whole level.
